BDL is a non-profit league. As stated when you first signed up for BDL, we have a Code of Conduct policy that we expect everyone to adhere to.

BDL Court Rules

ALL PLAYERS MUST BE IN FULL UNIFORM. FAILURE TO DO SO WILL RESULT IN A TECHNICAL FOR EACH PLAYER NOT IN FULL UNIFORM. FULL UNIFORM INCLUDES BDL ISSUED JERSEY AND SHORTS. EXCEPTION TO NOT HAVING  BDL ISSUED SHORTS, ENTIRE TEAM MUST HAVE MATCHING SHORTS (color and style).

Basketball Rules

I. TEAM COMPOSITION

  1.  Participation is restricted to enrolled members of BDL (“League”).

  2. Players must submit a registration form, acknowledging the waivers and attesting that they are enrolled in a health insurance plan.

  3. Non-returning teams must submit a roster to the league at least 3 weeks before the following season starts. Priority is given to the returning teams – from there, teams will be placed on a waitlist in order of application.

  4. Players can compete only for one team per division unless prior approval by league directors.

  5. At least 4 players must be present for a game to begin.  A team may recruit players playing in a lower division or any girls to fill out a roster at game time. Any other player recruited for temporary fill-in must be approved by opponent team’s captain. If these conditions are not met the game becomes a forfeit.

  6. Teams that will not have enough players on game day must notify the League by Thursday or be penalized $25 and given an automatic forfeit. If notified by the deadline, the team will not be accessed a loss and the League will schedule another team to play in its place (both games will count in the standings). The League is not obligated to reschedule the missing game.

  7. Scorekeepers shall enter in the scorebook only the names of players who are present at the start of the game.  Players, who arrive late, must report to scorer’s table during a time stoppage and ask to be added to the scorebook before entering the game. Violators shall be assessed a team technical foul.

II.EQUIPMENT
  1. Players must wear league-issued numbered uniforms. Teams can bring their own uniforms, but team members must be wearing matching shorts and jerseys. A technical foul will be assessed for each player who does not comply with the dress code.

  2. No participants may wear caps, do-rags, etc. while playing unless for religious purposes.

  3. Jewelry, casts, or any items deemed dangerous by the officials may not be worn during the game.  Medical alert bracelets are permitted.

III.PLAYER CONDUCT CODES

  1. Players must be respectful at all times. Team Captains may address an official on matters of interpretation or to obtain essential information.

  2. A player who demonstrates unsportsmanlike conduct will be assessed a technical foul. Depending on the severity of the action, the player may be ejected from the game and, in harsher cases, expelled from the league. No refunds will be issued, if expelled.

  3. Practicing during the game is prohibited except at half-time.

  4. Profanity is prohibited and will result in a technical foul.
    - If a player receives 2 technical fouls in a season, they will have a one game suspension and will be ejected from the game. If a player receives 3 technical fouls, they will be suspended for the rest of the season.

IV. GENERAL RULES

The League general uses the rules governed by NFHS. The exceptions are as follows:

  1. Player will be disqualified from the game upon receiving 6 fouls.

  2. The clock is stopped after a made basket in the last 2 minutes of each half and OT.

  3. There are no 1-and-1 foul situations. After the 7th team foul in a half, 2 foul-shots will be assessed. If the foul happened before the last 2 minutes of the half or OT, only 1 foul shot will be taken, and it will be counted as either 0 points, if missed, or 2 points, if made.  In the 2-minute mark, both foul shots will be taken.

Sportsmanship

  • Unsportsmanlike conduct, including mistreatment of referees and coaches, as well as the use of foul language will not be tolerated.

  • BDL reserves the right to terminate or suspend any player's participation in the league due to unsportsmanlike conduct, misconduct, or otherwise not adhering to the rules of the game.

  • For players in the Junior or Senior Division, unexcused absences from practice may result in reduced playing time.

  • Coaches, players, referees, volunteers and scoreboard keepers should be able to conduct the practices and games free from disruptive behavior, including foul or abusive language or obscene gestures from attendees to the practices and games including but not limited to parents of players, players and guests.

Parents

  • Parents are expected to be courteous and supportive of participants at the games, including coaches, players, referees, and scoreboard keepers.

  • Parents, we encourage you to watch your children during games and practices.

  • If you cannot stay, we ask that you please drop them off to the gym, and pick them up at the gym only. Please do not have them wait in the parking lot unsupervised, as it is a safety concern.

Campus Policy

  • Andrew Hill High School is a smoke free campus, so we ask you to please not smoke on school grounds, as it is a violation of school rules.

We are always looking for VOLUNTEERS! If you would like to volunteer, please email bdleague.sj@gmail.com to sign up or chat with Bia/Michelle before a game.
